I have launched Play Pro, a paid edition of the MP3 player with a full tagger built in. Play itself stays free.

Pulling my library back out of Google Takeout left me with thousands of files called things like Track 07 (1).mp3, compilations with no artist, and the same song three times over. Play Pro is what I built to sort that out. It works out what each track actually is and writes the correct details back into the MP3 itself, so the fix goes with the file into any player.

Key highlights of this release:

• Identify By Audio: Tag Folder searches MusicBrainz for every track, and anything it can't place by name is identified by its sound through AcoustID. The fingerprint is worked out in your browser; only the fingerprint and track length are sent, never the audio.

• You Approve Every Write: Matches are checked against track length and artist, then sorted into confident, worth a second look, or no match. Review Near-Misses plays each uncertain track while you pick the right version or type the details in yourself. Artist, title, album, year and cover art are written to the file only when you press Write.

• Tidy The Library: Duplicates compares the audio inside each file, so copies that differ only in their tags or artwork are caught, along with the (1) and copy leftovers. Remove gets rid of tracks you don't want, and an Untagged view lists whatever still needs fixing. Nothing is deleted: files go to _duplicates or _removed inside your music folder, with an Undo.

• Enjoy Cover Art: A full-screen view of the current track's sleeve, with an artist panel drawing on Wikipedia and Wikidata. It shows a photo and a short biography, plus formed or born dates, genres, labels and band members past and present.

• Pay Per Song Checked: Credits are used only when a song is looked up, and a song that's already been checked is never charged again. You can try it without an account on the first 20% of a folder, up to 25 songs. Sign in with just your email, and new accounts get 100 songs free. After that, packs are 1,000 songs for £2.99, 5,000 for £5.99 or 10,000 for £9.99. Payment is a one-off through Stripe, credits never expire, and it's UK only at launch.

I have officially launched Favicon, a free icon generator built for website developers.

Every site needs a surprising number of icons these days: browser tabs, bookmarks, iPhone home screens, Android launchers and installed web apps all ask for their own size and format. Miss one and you get a blurry stretched logo, a black square, or a generic globe. Favicon takes a single square image and produces the whole set in one go.

Key highlights of this release:

• The Complete Modern Set: Generates a multi-size favicon.ico (16, 32 and 48px), tab icons, a 180px Apple touch icon, 192px and 512px Android icons, an optional maskable icon, and a ready-made site.webmanifest.

• Copy-Paste HTML: Produces the exact <head> snippet to drop into your pages, with a path prefix option if your icons live somewhere other than the site root.

• Sensible Defaults: The Apple icon is built on a solid background so iOS doesn't fill transparency with black, the maskable icon keeps your logo inside Android's safe zone, and non-square images are centre-cropped automatically.

• Local Browser Processing: Every icon and the ZIP itself are built on your own machine. Your logo is never uploaded, and there's no sign-up, no account and no cost.

I have officially launched a lightweight, entirely browser-based MP3 Player.

Years ago, I spent countless hours meticulously ripping my entire CD collection into MP3s, ensuring every single track possessed the correct ID3 tags for artist metadata and album artwork. I uploaded that massive, carefully curated archive—featuring a huge amount of early '90s dance compilations especially—directly to Google's music locker, assuming I would have a pristine, cloud-accessible library for life.

That illusion shattered when Google shuttered the service, forcefully migrating my personal collection over to YouTube Music. Suddenly, listening to the very compilations I had purchased and uploaded meant sitting through unskippable advertisements. It completely defeated the purpose of owning my music.

Determined to take back control, I utilized Google Takeout to download the gigabytes of files and secure them locally. Channeling a local-first philosophy, I built this player. You simply point the application to your local music folder, and it instantly reads the embedded ID3 tags, elegantly rendering your original album artwork and playing your tracks seamlessly. No accounts, no data harvesting, and absolutely no ads.

How to rescue your uploaded music:

• Navigate to the Google Takeout website while logged into your account.

• Click Deselect all, then scroll down to check YouTube and YouTube Music.

• Click All YouTube data included, choose specifically to export your music uploads, and click OK.

• Scroll down, click Next step, and choose your preferred delivery method.

• Extract the downloaded ZIP archives into a single folder, ready to be played locally.

I have officially launched Combo, a new utility that converts Word documents to PDF and merges multiple PDFs into one, in seconds.

Here is a breakdown of the new tool's capabilities:

• Local Browser Processing: Combo runs entirely inside your browser, so documents are read, converted and merged on your own machine. Nothing is sent to or held on a server, which makes it safe for sensitive files like contracts and medical letters.

• Word to PDF Conversion: Word files are rebuilt as proper A4 PDFs with selectable, searchable text. Headings, bold, italic, underline, lists, tables, quotes, images and working links all carry through.

• Document Merging: Drop PDFs and Word files onto the page, arrange them into any order, and pull out only the pages you need.

• No Queues or Costs: Because there are no uploads, documents are processed almost instantly. Combo is free and needs no sign-up, account or email address, with no page limits and no watermarks on the output.
